Shatterstar
Personality Notes:
Writers:
There are two very
distinct portrayals of Shatterstar. One being the angry,
hostile mutant with a blood thirst unmatched, and the other
is the more curious, adjusting adventurer. Certain writers
(namely Rob Liefeld) continue to write him as though his
stay on Earth has been nothing but miserable, whereas others
(Fabian Nicieza and Jeph Loeb) attempted to flesh him out by
following him as he learned Earth’s ways. These portrayals
have dueled back and forth since Shatterstar’s existence
began, almost as bad as a split personality disorder.
Because of this, many people have made arguments about their
perception of the character and how his behavior is to be
interpreted (namely his social and sexual behavior).
However, despite all the conflictions, the writers have made
it a point to keep him ambiguous -- leaving him as one of
the most controversial X-Men characters to date.
Killing:
Shatterstar,
despite having taken hundreds of lives, does believe in a
cause for killing. He sees no honor in killing innocent
victims or children, and he has also voiced against killing
unjustly. Many times throughout the run of X-Force he has
voiced on killing in the name of justice, and that murder
only be brought about to those who ‘deserve’ it -- like bad
guys and threats to the human race. And even though it has
been referenced many, many times that he has killed people,
there have only been very few deaths he has caused on panel.
He killed Mojo on ‘tape’ when Mojo had abducted him and he
nearly killed Micromax during Civil War. Almost all others
he has fought on panel were only seriously injured, or he
was stopped by Cable or Domino. He claimed to be blood
thirsty and emotionless during the second run of X-Force,
but those statements had only been contradicted by himself
by the end of the Limited Series and Civil War.
Quirks:
~Although a very intelligent speaker, Shatty is infamous for
mangling idioms. Common sayings and slang are often taken
literally by him, and he wasn't known much for using them
until he was under the pen of John Francis Moore.
~He also has absolutely zero interest in fashion -- and it
shows. His outward appearances (hair styles, clothing,
accessories, etc) are probably just as bizarre as his
personality. Like anyone ever had the 'nads to tell him that
though.
~Is accustomed to hot weather and is not at all bothered by
hot temperatures. He considers the Nevada desert nothing..
~He gets extremely annoyed by people who talk too much. He
dislikes when people talk their way through battle (even
though he is guilty as sin for doing it himself), whine,
complain, lie, or disrespect. However he does have quite a
foul mouth himself and is notorious for insulting the hell
out of people when he fights.
~It absolutely pains him to leave the house without his
swords.
~He is constantly referred to as an 'MTV Pretty boy' and has
been compared to the dudes from Duran Duran.
~He once claimed to find the affects of alcohol undesirable,
but has since taken up drinking. Whether or not his healing
abilities would actually allow him to get intoxicated
remains to be seen.
~Is infamous for jumping and flipping around and over people
to grab their attention. He has been seen doing this
numerous times to his own teammates (at very impressive
heights and lengths).
~He is very petty. He is a sore loser and does not like when
things don't go his way. While he seems to follow Cable's
orders pretty well, he has, on occasion, been seen sulking
or talking back when he doesn't like something. This also
includes attempting to kill Feral numerous times, throwing a
fit in the med lab, yelling at Domino for stealing his
sword, sulking for weeks because Ric left, and sitting on
the floor in the Danger Room declaring he was no longer a
warrior because Warpath beat him one time in a spar. He is a
total control freak, and once that control is taken away
he's basically beside himself.
